On December 6, 2017, the Grodno Regional Executive Committee hosted the first Steering Committee meeting for the project «Support and training for Food processing enterprises in Grodno Oblast - Establishment of Grodno Agro-Industrial Park (GAIP) in Belarus».
The Steering Committee is envisaged to monitor progress, efficiency and effectiveness of the project implementation and provide strategic guidance. Representatives of all strategic project partners and counterparts were present at the meeting, as well as representatives of the Project Donor - the Russian Federation.
During the meeting the project manager Karl Schebesta made a report – presentation on the project activities implementation, financial expenditure and planning as well as review on the conducted activities for the period April – November 2017 among which:
Conducting HACCP training seminars for fruit and vegetables processing enterprises on Quality Management: CAMPDEN BRI, Grodno Center for Standardization, metrology and certification;
Developing the list of equipment for Center of Excellence (CoE);
Conducting International bidding exercises for procurement of equipment;
Awarding a contract with Grodno State Agrarian University (GSAU) for development and operationalization of the CoE;
Formation of expert team and team leader for the CoE;
Preparation of CoE facilities;
Developing of training manuals;
Conducting a training seminar on “Export regulations, certification, labeling, packaging for crops in Belarus”
Among the planned project activities for the following period were mentioned:
Developing training materials for the Center of Excellence;
Developing a pool of trainers for the pilot center with supporting institutions;
Installation and commissioning of equipment for the Center of Excellence;
Training seminars and workshops (training of trainers) for the Center of Excellence;
1-2 awareness raising and training workshops on quality management, ISO 22000, BRC, IFS, GAP etc;
Assisting selected enterprises in the implementation of a HACCP based quality management; system; and guiding selected enterprises in getting certification of their quality management system according to the market requirements;
Study tour for Belarusian experts on processing of f&v practices;
After reviewing report of the project manager, the members of the Steering Committee adopted a number of key decisions on the project. The comments and suggestions from the representatives of the Project Donor and the representative of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus were considered and taken into account for further project implementation. All the members of the Steering Committee confirmed their interest in the project, as well as further assistance for its implementation.
In the course of the next meeting in Grodno State Agrarian University, the sides considered the implementation progress of the Center of Excellence establishing at the premises of the university. The partners has reviewed the course of preparatory work at the facilities for the Center, discussed related technical issues, as well as the issues of cooperation between the parties for the successful implementation of the project.
